UV Radiation from lightbulbs – A team of researchers find that the response of healthy skin cells to UV emitted from CFL bulbs is consistent with damage from ultraviolet radiation.

“Our research shows that it is best to avoid using them at close distances and that they are safest when placed behind an additional glass cover.”

Manufacturers say that the amount of radiation will not be a problem for most people. I wonder if the government will allow me to import some regular lightbulbs…for medicinal purposes, even though (so we are told) they would heat the planet? “Despite their large energy savings, consumers should be careful when using compact fluorescent light bulbs,” said Professor Rafailovich.

ASPCA lied – The animal rights group ASPCA will pay Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus $9.3 million to settle a lawsuit the circus filed after courts found that activists paid a former circus worker for his help in claiming the circus abused elephants. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said Friday it was not admitting any wrongdoing in settling the lawsuit. It must be a nice thing to be so righteous that one never has to admit being wrong.

Global warming, the tool of the West – From Pravda of all places this comment: “For years, the Elites of the West have cranked up the myth of Man Made Global Warming as a means first and foremost to control the lives and behaviors of their populations. Knowing full well that their produce in China and sell in the West model and its consequent spiral downward in wages and thus standards of living, was unsustainable, the elites moved to use this new “science” to guilt trip and scare monger their populations into smaller and more conservative forms of living.”

Phew, saved by Republican Congress – The U.S. wind industry is rejoicing after a December in despair. Congress hath given! The Production Tax Credit (PTC), a government boondoggle to make wind power ‘affordable’ has been extended after facing expiration at the end of 2012.

Double taxation for CO2 in California? – Radical environmentalists are thrilled that California has launched a cap-and-trade program, but talks of a federal carbon tax raised concerns about double taxation. Just tax them already…Californian’s seem to love giving the fruit of their labor to the almighty state.

No food for you – An Orlando, FL man is fighting city officials to keep his vegetable garden in his front yard.
